How to get upholstered beds to you quickly

If you’re hunting for an upholstered bed, and you’re anything like us, you want it to be tasteful and comfy – and you probably want it delivered fairly sharpish.

When we came up with the idea of The Sleep Room, we kept this firmly in our minds. So we devised a system of “carcasses and covers” for each fabric or upholstered bed. Basically what this means is that we hold a stock of double, king and superking upholstered beds in our warehouse and then simply slip on a loose cover in your chosen colour when we deliver.

This probably doesn’t sound particularly revolutionary, but oddly enough it didn’t appear that anyone else was doing it. When we asked other bed retailers why this was, they said it was because it was too difficult to make a loose cover look like anything other than a baggy sack. We thought this was ridiculous and, several prototypes later, we had it perfected and they looked gorgeous. We were ready for business.

So what’s so great about this system?

It enables us to always keep a stock of upholstered and fabric beds in a range of lovely colours which we can deliver and assemble in your bedroom within just a few days (rather than six to twelve weeks you often get elsewhere). It also means that you can remove the fabric covers and wash them when they get dirty. And what’s more, if you feel like a change of colour as the years go by, you can give us a ring and we can pop a different one in the post to you.

To avoid any confusion, we should say here that our French style beds, which some people refer to as sleigh beds and others as upholstered beds or fabric beds, do not have removable covers: these classy numbers are made in the traditional way of the covers being fixed by a skilled upholsterer. We can however have any one of these double, king or superking beds reupholstered in any fabric or leather of your choice – please just call us to arrange.

As always, our standard fabric, upholstered or leather beds come under our free returns policy: if you don’t love them as much as we do we’ll come and collect for free. You risk nothing.  

Can I get a different fabric from the ones you offer?

The simple answer is yes. Although we find that most people prefer natural colours like stone and off-white, if “rustic red” is more your thing then we have a book of plain fabrics you can choose from. It usually takes two weeks to make up bespoke covers like this. Please phone us to find out more about this service.
